Lin Jian told reporters that “trade wars have no winners” and that the United States’ “abuse” of tariffs “seriously infringes” on international trade agreements.
“If the US insists on waging the tariffs war and trade war regardless of the interest of both countries and the international community, China will play along to the end,” Jian said.
The answer follows Trump’s post on Truth Social yesterday: “The United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, commencing April 9th, unless China withdraws its 34% rise beyond their existing long-term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025.
“In addition, we will end all communication with China regarding their requested meetings with us!”
The action might offer China fresh incentives to forge stronger alliances and flood other trade nations with lower-priced goods, all the while driving up prices for American consumers.
Economists and business executives, including billionaire Trump supporter Bill Ackman, are also pleading with the US president to halt his tariff proposals in the aftermath of volatile financial markets.
Reasons behind the US-China tariff conflict as Trump threatens 104% rates
Following the president’s threat to impose an eye-watering total tariff of 104% on Chinese goods, China and the US are in a fierce trade standoff.
In a single day last week, the US president was able to upset international stock markets and damage ties with the nation’s longstanding trading partners.
