Adam Ramey, the powerhouse lead vocalist and co-founder of rap-metal band Dropout Kings, has died at the age of 32 — a tragic loss that brings attention to the ongoing mental health crisis and the urgent need for accessible chronic illness management, behavioral health services, and mental wellness coverage through private health insurance.
His bandmates confirmed the tragic news in a statement on May 20, sharing their grief with fans and followers online. “Life comes at you in ways you can never predict,” the group wrote. “The rollercoaster of chasing your dreams and building with your brothers and friends is a joy few get to know… With the heaviest hearts, we share that our brother, Adam Ramey, has passed away.”
A GoFundMe set up by Ramey’s sister-in-law revealed the heartbreaking details behind his death. “On May 19th, just five days before his 32nd birthday, we lost Adam Ramey—beloved husband, father, son, and lead vocalist of Dropout Kings—to suicide after a long and painful battle with addiction,” the fundraiser stated.
Ramey’s passing is a devastating reminder of the impact of untreated mental health disorders, especially when complicated by substance use and the lack of comprehensive addiction treatment insurance plans. His story underscores the need for better access to inpatient behavioral therapy, clinical depression treatment, and diagnostic mental health evaluations.
“Adam loved deeply. He was a devoted husband to my 29-year-old sister, Jamie, and a proud father to their 18-month-old son, Jude. He was also an incredible uncle, friend, and human being.”
