Following the casting of Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr., Marvel was criticized for “whitewashing” Doctor Doom.

One fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “By bringing RDJ back, Marvel actually dug a deeper hole for themselves.”

“Yes, he will save their dying franchise, but removing the image of Iron Man from people’s minds will be an even more difficult task.”

Fans also claim that a significant part of Doctor Doom’s past is being overlooked, so this isn’t the only issue with the casting of Downey Jr.

“This is straight-up whitewashing,” someone adds, criticizing Marvel’s casting choice.

“Doctor Doom is not a white man,” another person adds.

According to a third, “Hollywood keeps messing with Doom, which is my favorite comic book villain.”

Another person remarks: “The whitewashing ought to be the main focus of any complaints regarding RDJ’s portrayal of Doctor Doom. That seems like a far more serious problem than anything else.
