The name ‘hamstering’ comes from the resemblance to how a hamster drinks water through the metal spout of a bottle in its cage, a comparison that’s as vivid as it is strange.
While some TikTok users approach the trend with curiosity or humor, others joke about preparing to ‘show their partners’ how it’s done or ensuring ‘the coast is clear.’
Despite its apparent impracticality, the trend has gained traction — at least in theory.
Zachary Zane, author and s** columnist, expressed skepticism that anyone had seriously attempted this before TikTok brought it to light.
“I had never heard of this position before last week,” he admitted to Mashable.
“But I bet you a few very adventurous people are now trying it out and seeing if it’s feasible — though not necessarily covered by private health insurance or included in any prenatal care recommendations.”
