When officers arrived at a residence in Lower Southampton, Pennsylvania, they were responding to reports expressing concern for the safety and well-being of children believed to be staying at the location.
What they discovered was unexpected — 12 young girls were found living with a 52-year-old man who, according to initial findings, had no familial relationship with them.
Lee Kaplan was found living with several girls, whose ages ranged from 6 months to 18 years old. According to reports, the oldest had come to live with him after being placed in his care by her parents.
At the time, she was 14 years old, and her family — described as formerly Amish — was experiencing financial difficulties. As part of an arrangement for assistance, they allowed her to reside with Kaplan.
Now 18, the young woman is reported to be the mother of two children, both of whom were also living in the home at the time of the investigation.
