Trump posted an AI-generated image of himself wearing a pope’s robe only days before Leo’s election, at the time of grief after Frances’ death.
This action caused a great deal of criticism from political and religious leaders. Later, the official White House social media account tweeted the picture.
Trump said, “I’d like to be pope,” as the caption for the Truth Social post. I would choose it as my top option. He clarified that he didn’t really have a preference.
The archbishop of New York, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, said, “I must say, we have a cardinal that happens to be out of a place called New York who’s very good, so we’ll see what happens.”
Pope Leo attacked Vance over an interview he did on Fox News regarding Christianity, posting on his X page under the alias Cardinal Robert Prevost.
“JD Vance is incorrect,” he said. “Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank how much we love other people.”
