Talking About Their Double Gender Transition, a Father and Son

Raphael and Gustavo Batista, a father and son from São Paulo, Brazil, now identify as male. The first to begin transitioning at the age of four was Gustavo, who is now ten years old.

The “strength and courage” to follow suit came from seeing his kid accept his individuality. Raphael made the public decision to accept his identification.

At the age of 38 and asked to be called “male.” He shared a video on Instagram in September that spoke about his experience and gender identification.

The Portuguese translation of the video’s description said: “If I feel dysphoria in my body? And “yes” is the response. Raphael had a direct response when asked.

Whether his own choice had been influenced by his son’s transition: “It didn’t have any influence, but he [Gustavo] gave me strength and courage to face [the transition].”
