In an attempt to enhance NHS care for transgender adolescents, renowned pediatrician Dr. Hilary Cass offered more than thirty suggestions.
Her study, which took almost four years to complete, concluded that kids “caught in the middle” of a very contentious argument had been put on a course that would result in permanent changes.
She cautioned that the majority of the information currently available in favor of hormone treatment and puberty blockers was founded on “shaky foundations” and lacked strong scientific support.
In the end, the Cass Report found that there was “remarkably weak” evidence in favor of medical procedures and that transgender adolescents had been “let down” by the paucity of study.
In response to these results, NHS Greater Glasgow and NHS Lothian stopped prescribing gender-affirming medicines and puberty blockers.
To new patients in March. In order to conduct a comprehensive investigation, NHS Lothian further suspended.
All new referrals for surgery and evaluation appointments in May. These limitations were eventually removed, however.
