Burnette emphasizes that she is not anti-vaccine. She and her children have received all routine childhood vaccinations.
But her experience has made her hesitant to pursue newer vaccines, including future COVID or flu shots.
“I’ve always believed in vaccines,” she told DailyMail.com. “But I’ll never get another flu shot or COVID vaccine, and I won’t give them to my kids either. They’ll get the ones that have been studied for decades.”
Despite the pain and the upheaval of her life, Burnette credits her family for helping her persevere—particularly her husband and their 10-year-old son, who has taken on caregiving responsibilities far beyond his years.
“They are the reason I keep going,” she said. “Without my family and faith in God, I don’t know where I’d be.”
