Marjorie was put on a kidney dialysis machine to assist remove the medicine from her system, but it was hard to estimate how many tablets she had ingested.
For the little-town girl who had been chosen as the world’s most beautiful, the tragedy signaled the conclusion of a six-month journey that had started with victory and concluded with pain.
According to Marjorie’s agency, she worked too hard, which is what caused the whole problem. It all got to be too much for her, especially when combined with her personal struggles.
Agent Jeff Carey told the Daily Record, “At last, it all came down and hit her on top of the head and knocked her down.” Marjorie has always maintained that.
The incident was not a suicide attempt and thankfully recovered from it. Two years later, Wallace herself said, “I was depressed and OD’d on a few too many sleeping pills.”
