The helicopter “splits in half” in midair and crashes into the Hudson River in New York City.

There have been other incidents over the years, including one in 2009 that killed nine people when a plane and a tourist helicopter collided over the Hudson River, and another in 2018 that killed five people when a charter helicopter providing “open door” trips crashed into the East River.

The United States saw its deadliest aviation catastrophe since 2001 when a jet operated by American Airlines collided with a military helicopter in Washington, DC, on January 29. The crash claimed the lives of all 67 individuals involved.

A medical jet crashed in Philadelphia two days after the catastrophic crash in the US capital, killing all six individuals on board.

A plane carrying ten people vanished over Alaska six days later on February 6; the wreckage was ultimately found, and all of the passengers were pronounced dead.

On February 10, while in Arizona, Vince Neil’s private aircraft collided with another aircraft that was arriving from Austin, Texas, at Scottsdale Airport. Neil wasn’t on board.

Eighty passengers were successfully evacuated from a Delta Air Lines plane that crashed and overturned in Toronto one week later on February 17.
