Although Lisa, whose real name is Lalisa Manobal, has not yet responded to the controversy, the term “Rosa Parks underwear” was already popular before the Met’s champagne had run its course.
When the design is examined more closely, it becomes clear that the collage-style motif is most prominent below the waist, which some people thought was “disrespectful” and “weird” for the placement of photos of what seemed to be revered Black historical figures.
“I apologize, but why isn’t Rosa Parks, a significant historical figure, on your underwear?One user wrote, “It’s also weird, like, disrespectful,” while another person echoed: “Rosa Park on her underwear.” What the devil was she thinking? This is incredibly insulting.
