So what’s the actual truth about the lace?
A Louis Vuitton representative told The Cut and Vogue that Henry Taylor, a modern American artist specifically selected by Pharrell Williams, LV’s Men’s Creative Director and co-chair of the 2025 Gala, was responsible for the creation. A comparable design was first seen by Taylor in LV’s Spring-Summer 2024 menswear collection.
The print includes “portraits of figures who have been a part of the artist’s life,” according to the label. Rosa Parks is among the names that have not been confirmed, though. Whether any well-known or identifiable people are featured in Taylor’s pictures has not been made clear by the brand.
Theme Under Fire
Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity serves as the inspiration for this year’s exhibition and gala theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. It presented “a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present,” according to the Met’s Instagram.
