Instead of taking another aircraft, Reba and her ex-husband chose to spend the night in San Diego. Ten miles after taking off, the band’s jet crashed.
Even though the terrible tragedy occurred more than thirty years ago, Reba never passes up the opportunity to honor her band’s departed members.
Reba spoke candidly about the tragedy in an Oprah interview back in 2012. “Everyone on the plane was killed when the airplane’s wing tip struck a rock on the side of Otay Mountain,” she claimed.
Narvel, Reba’s manager, went to meet with our pilot after we were informed, and he informed us of the situation.
It was two or three in the morning when Narvel returned to the hotel room where I was. He informed me that one of the aircraft had crashed, and I asked, “Are they okay?”
