If the big spending measure unveiled by House leaders Tuesday night passes both houses and is signed into law, members of Congress would get salary increases for the first time in 15 years.
Members of Congress would get wage increases for the first time since 2009 because to provision in the 1,574-page continuing resolution (CR) that permits a cost of living adjustment (COLA).
This salary raise for Congress comes as inflation has soared during President Joe Biden’s administration, leaving many of their constituents struggling to make ends meet.

Currently, lawmakers get a basic pay of $174,000 per year, with larger salaries going to those in leadership positions. Rep. Jared Golden, a Democrat from Maine,
Issued a press statement on Wednesday stating that if Biden signs the CR into law, members of Congress would earn a maximum pay rise of $6,600 because of a 3.8% 2025 COLA.
