Frank Warren was left to lament the outcome as Tyson Fury declined to participate in an interview in the ring after his loss against Oleksandr Usyk.
On Saturday night, however, the Gypsy King broke his quiet backstage in Saudi Arabia after storming out of the squared circle, declaring: “I swear to God, I thought I won it by at least three rounds.”
In an exciting battle in Riyadh, the Gypsy King fell by unanimous decision after trying to exact revenge on his Ukrainian opponent from their May first encounter.
Despite how close the bout had been, Fury lifted his arms in triumph after the final bell. However, all three judges declared the 36-year-old Brit to have lost 116–112, raising questions about his future in boxing.
The idea to speak in the ring instead of Fury was deemed “crazy” by his stunned promoter Warren. “I am baffled,” he continued, “since it is impossible to offer four rounds out of twelve.
“It is unthinkable that one judge did not award him any rounds after round six. That is foolishness, yet I’m cool and collected. It’s absurd. Their looks, Usyk’s leadership had him triumphant.
