When 174 skiers and snowboarders needed to be rescued due to a gondola breakdown, a day out on the slopes in Colorado took a turn for the worst.
The resort’s representative, Jen Miller, said that the event happened at Winter Park Resort at around 12:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Around 1 p.m., the evacuation process started, and by 5 p.m., most of the impacted park visitors had safely left.
The last “10% or so” took a little longer because of the darkness, Miller said, but by 6 p.m. Saturday, everyone was safely out of the area.
According to Miller, the resort’s internal ski patrol employees, who get yearly training for emergency ski lift and gondola rescues, carried out the evacuations.
