Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and a Nobel Peace Prize winner, died on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, he passed away quietly at his Plains, Georgia, residence.
Carter was born in Plains, Georgia, on October 1, 1924. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and served in the Navy until 1953.
He returned to Georgia to oversee his family’s peanut growing operation after serving in the military. After serving in the Georgia State Senate from 1963 to 1967,
He went on to serve as Georgia’s governor from 1971 to 1975. He was elected president in 1976 and held the office for one term, until 1981.
