The Los Angeles Chargers recently performed a fair catch kick, which hasn’t been done in an NFL game since 1976. However, what exactly is a fair-catch kick?
If a player makes a fair catch, the NFL allows his team to try a kick from the position instead of starting the following drive.
The kick is worth three points, which is equal to a field goal, if it passes through the goalposts on the scoring end of the field. The ball does not need to be snapped during a fair-catch kick,
