LaClair discovered that Olson’s chemotherapy was exacerbating his anaemia, which he had prior to being diagnosed with MDS, in addition to his “iron overload.”
By 2019, LaClair seemed to be very certain that Weiner had misdiagnosed his patient and encouraged Olson to seek a second opinion.
He brought his concerns to the hospital’s peer review committee a year later, and when LaClair took over as committee chair, he had Weiner dismissed.
Weiner was then charged by St Peter’s Health with ‘damage that was caused to patients by undergoing treatments,
Including chemotherapy, that were not clinically recommended or required’ in relation to Olson’s case and his medical care of other patients.
