The burial of a warrior was found by researchers at Suontaka Vesitorninmaki, which is located in Hattula, Finland, in 1968.
This information was documented in an article that was published in the European Journal of Archaeology in the year 2021.
The finding of a grave with things within that imply it may have been a woman, if not a person ‘whose gender identification may well have been non-binary’,
led to the discovery of a sword with a bronze handle that was discovered inside the burial. A news release issued by the University of Turku provides the following explanation:
“The jewelry that was found inside the grave suggests that the individual who was buried was dressed in clothing that was typical of women during that time period.”
“On the other hand, the person was buried with a sword – possibly two, according to some interpretations – which is often associated with masculinity.”
