The finest cloud breaks are probably going to be found in sections of eastern Scotland and northeastern England, while many other regions will be mostly dry but gloomy.
By the start of the year, it seems more likely that colder, more unstable weather will at least partially enter northern and central regions, posing a danger of rain, wind, and maybe even ice, sleet, and snow.
Initially rather mild, but by early January, temperatures are likely to recover to more average levels. Localised fog and frost might result from any clearer periods that occur throughout the night.
