After a fire broke out at the famous Parisian monument, over 1,200 people were evacuated from the Eiffel Tower on Tuesday.
According to Newsweek, French officials verified that the elevator shaft between the building’s first and second floors was the source of the fire.
The sight was being reported by social media users. One user said on X (previously Twitter): “A fire is currently raging at the Eiffel Tower.”
They just evacuated the monument. Firefighters cannot reach the flames despite an emergency response firm setting up a perimeter. “A fire is in progress at the Eiffel Tower,”
Another witness wrote. The elevator shaft between the first and second levels was seen to be on fire. Everyone in the area has been evacuated. The firemen are still on duty.
