Alongside his wife Joanna, he was able to portray the part of an estranged couple who are often at odds.

Before returning to television, he played Larry Finkelstein in the five-season run of “Dharma & Greg.” He also featured in the contentious 1995 NC-17 classified film “Showgirls.”

“General Hospital,” “Rugrats,” “The Spectacular Spider-Man,” “Happy Endings,” “The Crazy Ones,” “Young Sheldon,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and several more shows are among his other credits.

That was released this year was one of Rachins’ many writing credits. Joanna, Alan’s wife of 46 years, and their son Robert survive him. He was eighty-two.
