In addition to enduring horrific sexual abuse, the recipient of Biden’s commutation brutally stabbed the girls: Hobbs 20 times, including in her eyes, and Tobias 11 times.
In 2009, Avila-Torrez also assaulted and almost killed another lady, and she killed U.S. Navy Petty Officer Amanda Jean Snell, age 20. Additionally, Biden commuted Thomas Sanders’ sentence.
In 2014, a Louisiana federal jury found that Sanders should be executed for killing Suellen Roberts and her daughter Lexis Roberts, then 12 years old, in the autumn of 2010.
Following two months of courtship, Sanders spent Labor Day weekend with Suellen Roberts and her daughter at a wildlife area close to the Grand Canyon. He made a lethal detour on the way home,
leading his victims to a secluded area in the desert where he shot Suellen Roberts in the head in front of her daughter and held Lexis Roberts hostage for a number of days.
In the end, the guy whose sentence Biden reduced shot the little girl four times, cut her throat, and left her corpse in the woods, where a hunter eventually discovered it.
