At the forefront of one of the worst health catastrophes in a generation is Dr. Maria Abreu. Once thought to be a disease.
That only affected the elderly, Miami gastroenterologists have identified more and more young patients with colon cancer over the last ten years.
Although obesity, sedentary lifestyles, and highly processed foods have long been held responsible for the increase,
Dr. Abreu said that she is increasingly seeing young, healthy individuals get the ailment, and she is certain that there is more to the tale.
The doctor, who also serves as president of the American Gastroenterological Association, recently told.
That she thinks the nation’s colon cancer epidemic may be caused by a number of chemicals that are now widely used in the food supply.
