According to the statement, “the individual who reported finding the dog stated that the bag seemed to be moving, which caught his attention as he drove by.”
The dog is being cared for by veterinarians at the City of Des Moines Animal Services facility and is gradually getting better, Parizek said on Saturday.
What will happen to the dog when he has completely healed is yet unknown. Investigators are hoping that someone can identify the dog and assist them find the person who left him.
According to the police, the dog had trimmed ears, indicating that he had medical attention earlier in life. As of Friday, the dog was still being cared for by a veterinarian.
After Des Moines Police uploaded the dog’s pictures to their Facebook page, they received a barrage of indignant comments from people.
Who were horrified by the way the animal had been treated and demanded that the police find the culprit.
“America’s animal cruelty laws are vastly inadequate,” one user said, while others described the acts as “heartbreaking” and “sick.”
According to the press release, authorities are requesting that anybody who recognizes the dog call the police department at 515-248-6052.
