Residents have been urged by the Met Office to be ready by preparing how to secure any unsecured things outside their houses.
Temperatures in southern England are predicted to reach 10 to 12 degrees Celsius on New Year’s Day, while temperatures in the north are predicted to be between 5 and 7 degrees Celsius.
The forecaster predicts widespread frost throughout the nation on Thursday night, and the remainder of the week will be even colder.
