‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ is being shouted at radio stations to cease playing it.

The song, which included well-known performers including Sting, George Michael, Bono, and Boy George, was created.

As a charity benefit song with the intention of raising funds to help with the hunger situation in Ethiopia.

Indrajit Samarajiva, the song’s author, dissected the lyrics to explain why she thinks the Christmas smash has to be canceled.

Samarajiva criticized the song for its “racist” and “ignorant” lyrics that disparage Africa and its people, writing on her Medium blog: “It’s not just that these lyrics haven’t aged well.”

They were never really excellent. She added, “They adopt a colonial and ignorant mindset, more concerned with pleasing white people than assisting anyone.”

with phrases like “Where nothing ever grows” and “And there won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas time.” No rivers run or rain falls.
