Mohamed Chaoua, Khelif’s boxing coach, told Reuters via WhatsApp that social media rumors that the WBO had suspended Khelif and stripped her of her championships were untrue.
In an Oct. 3 Facebook post, the Algerian Boxing Federation stated that “all false news about Algerian boxing in general, and the Olympic champion
‘Imane Khelif’ (in particular) is baseless and has no connection to the International Olympic Committee.” The organization did not reply to Reuters’ request for comment.
An IBA spokeswoman who was contacted by Reuters said the organization stood by the findings of its gender tests in 2023 but declined to comment on the social media accusation about Khelif’s Olympic gold.
