It wasn’t good for a guy who chose to remain up for 264 hours *yawns while typing*. In 1964, San Diego, California,
Students Bruce McAllister and Randy Gardner set a new world record for the longest time a person has willingly skipped sleep.
Under the guidance of Dr. William C. Dement, a sleep expert at Stanford University, they chose to undertake the enormous undertaking as a school science fair project.
Both took part in the challenge, but Gardner, 17, broke the previous world record by staying away for an incredible 11 days and 25 minutes.
Later, McAllister told the BBC: “I remained up with him to keep an eye on him, and we were fools, you know, young fools.
