One benefit, however, is that once it’s gone, there will be more darkness, which will make it easier to view the planets and stars overhead.
The moon’s phases and the calendar don’t line up, which results in black moons. Because calendar months are longer than lunar cycles,
which last around 29.5 days, there may be months with two new moons or more new moons in a season.
Black moons happen about every 29 months. A seasonal black moon, which is for black moons in a single season,
will occur once every 33 months. In February, when there is neither a new moon nor a full moon, the rarest kind of black moon occurs.
There will be two more black moons in the next years after today’s. The next one is scheduled for August 23, 2025, and the following one is scheduled for August 31, 2027.
