That may be a powerful deterrent in and of itself,” Johnston said. “I think the use of a body-worn camera can do that, because the moment you see yourself is probably [when] you’re going to change your behavior.”

In an effort to prevent theft and make businesses safer, merchants are also experimenting with body cameras in response to consumer complaints about products being locked up in cases, according to Johnston.
