German-born Marianne Bachmeier took strong action after realising that jail alone was insufficient retribution for her daughter’s murderer.
Bachmeier brought a.22-caliber Beretta handgun into the courtroom on March 4, 1981, during Grabowski’s trial, and fired eight rounds, six of which hit Grabowski.
According to witnesses, Bachmeier spoke about wanting to murder Grabowski and called him a “pig.” Grabowski was killed by the act, and Bachmeier was put on trial for his murder.
Known as Germany’s “Revenge Mother,” Bachmeier provoked intense discussion over whether her acts were justified.
Some questioned the morality and legality of her vigilantism, while others sympathised with her desire for vengeance.
During court proceedings, it was discussed whether Bachmeier’s conduct qualified as murder or planned manslaughter.
