Keira Knightley’s age in Pirates of the Caribbean shocked many to their very core.

If Knightley’s adolescence had been filled with acting engagements instead of the usual British adolescent pursuits, then surely we would have noticed that she was much younger than we assumed by now.

That, however, does not seem to be the case; upon learning the actress’s age when she landed her breakthrough role in Pirates of the Caribbean in 2003, social media followers went absolutely crazy.

A fan of the film said: “Keira Knightley being like 17 when she filmed Pirates of the Caribbean shakes me to my core.”

“Her acting chops are absolutely mind-blowing,” another commenter said. You haven’t even lived long enough to have this kind of range, you dweeb. An other contributor said:

“She looked 25 at 17 and stayed looking 25 to this very day.” A fourth person said, “I’ve never been able to watch it the same way I learned that.” The thought “she’s 17!!”

keeps running through my head. After that, I try to put myself back in the shoes of 17 or 35 years ago. Knightley played Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean:
