The good news is that nobody was hurt! According to one writer, “only the front part of the box was damaged” in the explosion; another writer expressed disbelief that anything like this could happen when the ship was in the water.
No official word on what caused the explosion has come out just yet, but according to the Ningbo Maritime Search & Rescue Centre, the ship was carrying potentially dangerous cargo.
Shock waves destroyed offices near the pier, according to state-run media Qilu Evening News.
“Our windows were damaged, and the ceiling of our canteen collapsed a little,” a worker at a firm approximately 1 km (0.6 mile) from the ship told the site (via Reuters).
