Saunders, who works in risk and compliance, said she heard she wasn’t ‘assured’ to obtain one but never pursued the accusation.
She was proven incorrect by a letter from West Sussex County Council in August, which said that she had not paid the fee and was now scheduled to appear in court.
The British national was charged under Section 444 (1) of the Education Act 1996, which carries a £1,000 fine and the possibility of a criminal conviction. She has been issued a notice of single justice proceedings.
According to the Act, a parent is guilty of an offense if their kid of obligatory school age who is enrolled in a school does not attend on a regular basis, unless they can demonstrate that there was a “reasonable justification” for their absence.
She has contacted West Sussex County Council since receiving the notice of inquiry, but they want to pursue legal action.
