Sara Sharif was a marvelously vivacious schoolgirl with lofty aspirations who suffered years of pain at the hands of people who should have cared for her the most before her untimely death at the age of ten.
The brightness she brought into the world was cruelly snuffed, which is heartbreaking. But since the young student was intelligent.
Gifted, and “sassy,” with many aspirations for the future, she will always be remembered as more than simply a murder victim.
Her uncle, Faisal Malik, 29, her stepmother, Beinash Batool, 30, and father, Urfan Sharif, 42, were all condemned at the Old Bailey today; Sharif and Batool will be imprisoned for life.
Malik, who lived with them, will spend at least 16 years in prison, while Sharif and Batool will each serve at least 40 and 33 years, respectively.
According to Mr. Justice Cavanagh, who handed down the sentence today, Sara was treated “as if she was worthless” and her father and stepmother showed “no concern for her happiness.”
