The customary curtain call for the college football regular season is the yearly rivalry game between the Army Black Knights and Navy Midshipmen.
Due to the spectacle surrounding the game and the fact that it is televised over the air without competition, it often attracts very high viewership.
However, this year’s game, which pitted two schools who were in the AP Poll all season, heightened fan excitement to an all new level.
According to Front Office Sports’ Eric Fisher, the game had an impressive 9.4 rating. That’s a new record, too.
However, it also broke the previous record of 8.45, which was achieved in 1992. The enormous rating shows a 31% increase over the previous year.
Additionally, according to Fisher, it outperforms a number of other prestigious athletic events, such as the MLB All-Star Game and Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final in June.
