Daniel Jones, the team’s quarterback, was benched and cut. Barkley was placed on the Franchise Tag before the 2023 season.
However, with only two more defeats to finish the season, they were in the running to be selected first overall in April of following year.
Naturally, the Giants prevailed, defeating the Colts 45–33 thanks to a superb performance from Drew Lock.
It goes without saying that neither coaches nor players play to lose. However, this was a game-changing victory for the Giants in terms of the future.
Like many others, I don’t believe that there is a quarterback in the 2025 draft class that is worth selecting with the first overall choice. The Giants, however, could have a different perspective.
They could have traded the pick to someone who did believe one of the quarterbacks was deserving, even if they both thought that none of them were.
