The referee who attended the winning school made an absurd decision that marred a historic high school wrestling rivalry.

With the win, Easton had a 28-27 advantage and effectively won the last match. Crossman roared in celebration and tossed his headpiece on the Easton bench for a while.

Referee Mark Getz, a 1994 state champion for the Blue Eagles and a Nazareth graduate, chose to step in at that point. Crossman illegally “threw” his headwear, according to Getz’s ruling.

The squad loses one point for failure to do so. Because he had won more individual fights, Nazareth prevailed on a tiebreaker, tying the match at 27-27.

Supporters were shocked by the choice. Getz seems to have applied the regulations incorrectly in addition to going over his bounds.

Legendary Easton coach Jody Karam deserves praise for maintaining composure throughout the whole ordeal.

However, Karam and his son Sage, who drives an IndyCar, did express their dissatisfaction on Twitter.
