Why only 18 TV episodes of Netflix’s newest hit series cost $250 million

The first season of Arcane, which is based on League of Legends characters and story, was praised by many and became one of the streamer’s most popular series ever.

Rotten Tomatoes gave season one a perfect score of 100 percent, while IMDb gave the series an average rating of 9 out of 10. That puts it above Fargo, True Detective, and Succession for context.

But given the high cost of only 18 episodes spread across two seasons, you would kind of anticipate this caliber of work.

In a recent Variety story, the project’s total cost was disclosed. Riot Games, the company behind League of Legends, is the project’s financial supporter,

While Netflix is the show’s sole distributor. According to the source, the $250 million was used for the series’ production and promotion.
