A 13-year-old boy uses a gadget that his mom bought him for $3 to thwart a kidnapper.

The young guy, he said, deserved praise for what he had done. Nothing unusual about the slingshot the adolescent used. His mom got it for $3 during a discount sale.

On occasion, the adolescent would go outside to his yard to hone his aim by shooting at empty orange juice cans.

The boy said how, upon seeing a stranger trying to steal his sister, the idea occurred to him that, should the abductor succeed, his sister would most likely be either killed or turned into a sex slave.

“Come from behind her, grabbed her as you see in the movies — hand over the mouth, arm around the waist — and was trying to take her into the woods,” Grimshaw said as he described the experience.

Owen then brandished his slingshot and shot him. She hurried into the house, sobbing, and informed her brother that she had been almost murdered, when he rescued himself from the kidnapper’s clutches.
