A 13-year-old boy uses a gadget that his mom bought him for $3 to thwart a kidnapper.

An furious Owen sprinted outside, yelling obscenities at the abductor. His baseball swung wide of his target. His third and last effort to strike him with the slingshot was also unsuccessful due to the broken rubber.

The kids contacted their mom, who had dropped by a relative’s house on her way home from work to provide a hand.

The term “kidnapper” was audible above her children’s cries and squawking on the phone, so she immediately dialed 911.

“For a few days, I was in shock,” Maggie said. A gas station was the hiding place of the 17-year-old abductee.

The Alpena County District Court subsequently filed charges against him, including attempted abduction, attempted criminal assault, and misdemeanor assault and battery.

Reports indicate that the victim had “clear signs of an injury consistent with those that would have been sustained from the slingshot strikes to his head and chest,” according to the police.
