A lady with late-stage skin cancer has issued a warning about the disastrous consequences of trying to get a “base tan” before a summer vacation after just a few sunbed treatments.
She was diagnosed with incurable skin cancer. Watford resident Lily Murphy, 30, initially used sunbeds in her early twenties to “prepare” her complexion for a trip to South East Asia.
Over a period of weeks, she used the tanning equipment for ‘a few of minutes here and there’, which adds up to less than an hour. These devices are known to raise cancer risk by up to 75%.
She remembered applying sunscreen while on vacation to shield herself from the sun’s damaging UV rays since she is “very fair-skinned and always get burnt.”
When she got back to the UK, the NHS administrator went to see her doctor to ask about a mole that was causing her anxiety.
