In 2019, doctors operated to remove the malignancy. “Hearing that the cancer had not spread was such a relief,” she said. “I told myself, ‘I’ve beaten it,'” Lily said.
But when on a family vacation in Gloucestershire in January 2023, four years later, she started to feel ill.
She had excruciating back discomfort that gradually spread to her chest, and she was “constantly tired.”
I was unable to breathe. My mother said, “It feels like something’s not right,” when I told her.
Despite her numerous visits to A&E, her worries were written off as anxiousness because of her past mental health issues.
She was eventually scheduled for blood tests and scans in another facility, which showed the heartbreaking reality: her cancer had returned and had spread to her neck and lungs.
