A 28-year-old Georgia teacher passed out at home and woke up without legs. She has since won $70 million.

 

The Atlanta Journal quoted Matt Cook, one of Powell’s principal lawyers, as saying, “That should tell you everything you need to know about who was right.”

Following a two-and-a-half-week assessment of the evidence, the court determined that Albany Pulmonary and Critical Care

Associates, Albany Vascular Specialist Center, and physicians Joe Morgan, James Palazzolo, and Thomas Ungarino were responsible.

“We knew from Day One that our client was obviously mistreated by her physicians, so the verdict was not surprising,” Cook said.

“Repeated denials and a refusal to take responsibility in the face of overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing were what ultimately led to the outcome.”
