According to court documents published in the Atlanta Journal, everyone implicated as responsible denied any misconduct.
The medical staff maintained throughout the lawsuit that Powell was not harmed because they followed the standard of care they were supposed to provide.
In his September case outline, Dr. Palazzolo stated that “the care and treatment Ms. Powell received at Phoebe (Putney Memorial Hospital) from Dr.
Palazzolo and others was necessary to save her life and preserve the function of her brain and other vital organs,” according to the Atlanta Journal.
According to his case summary, Ungarino, another doctor held accountable for the tragedy, tried to shift the blame by claiming that
Powell’s lower limbs had already suffered irreparable damage before she even reached the hospital in serious condition.
