A 40-year-old woman who refused a life-extending cancer medication declares her death.

 

She remarked, “I just want the chance, the chance to be able to live,” as she had her last NHS chemotherapy session. “That’s why I’m doing this, for my son and my family, not just for me.”

The Swansea Bay Health Board’s oncologist for Davies had requested specialized financing for the medication, but it was denied.

It claimed to “carefully consider all requests for the funding of treatments that fall outside normal treatment protocols” at the time, taking into consideration the recommendations of the health assessment authority NICE.

Citing the drug’s lack of cost-effectiveness, NICE declined to endorse it in July and instead urged pharmaceutical firms to provide a more reasonable pricing.

“If you’re reading this, then it means I’m no longer here, and I can’t say to a better place because that is impossible!” Davies wrote on Facebook to announce her passing.
