Prosecutors claim that she left Reagan “in peril” and was later discovered bathing with her daughter still immersed in the car.
Reagan was first taken via airlift, but emergency personnel decided she was too unstable and took her by ambulance instead.
The next day, the four-year-old passed away in the hospital. According to The Sacramento Bee, authorities claim that Reagan’s uncle,
Who lived nearby, hurried to the scene and assisted in removing Acosta from the car. Then he and a deputy pulled Reagan out of the freezing water.
California Highway Patrol spokesman Tom Olsen stated, “Heroically, and without hesitation, [they] entered the frigid water and rescued” the toddler.
Initially detained for DUI, Acosta was eventually freed on bond despite not being hurt in the collision. Prosecutors filed fresh accusations, including murder, and officers located her.
